The use of cenospheres in fire protection

Cenospheres are commonly used in fire protection and thermal insulation applications due to their lightweight, hollow structure and excellent thermal resistance.

Below are some examples where they are applied in systems designed to provide fire protection or thermal insulation between fire and a metal surface:

1. Fire-Resistant Coatings
Cenospheres are incorporated into intumescent and refractory coatings that are applied to metal surfaces to protect them from high temperatures during a fire.

2. Fireproof Panels and Boards
Cenospheres are added to the composition of fireproof boards and panels used as cladding or linings for metal surfaces.

3. Lightweight Fire-Resistant Concrete
Cenospheres are mixed into lightweight refractory concrete used for thermal insulation.

4. Spray-Applied Fireproofing Materials (SFRMs)
Cenospheres are used in spray-applied fireproofing materials that are directly sprayed onto metal surfaces.

5. Thermal Insulation Layers in Pipelines
Cenosphere-based materials are used as insulation layers around pipelines that transport flammable materials or operate at high temperatures.

6. Fireproof Adhesives and Sealants
Cenosphere-filled adhesives and sealants are used in joints and gaps between metal components for fire protection.
